改变,不止地球一小时

地球一小时(Earth Hour)是世界自然基金会(WWF)应对全球气候变化所发起的一项全球性节能活动,提倡于每年三月最后一个星期六的当地时间晚上20:30(2023年地球一小时为3月25日),个人、社区、企业和政府自愿自发参加,关上不必要的照明和电器一个小时,来表明大家对自然保护的关切和对环保的支持。

“地球一小时”在2007年首次在悉尼开展活动,迄今已成为全球最大的公众环保活动。2023年起,“地球一小时”被赋予更大的使命,凝聚社会各界“一小时”的力量,关上灯,点亮希望,推动改变,共同迈向自然向好的未来。

“加星人”的绿色工作日

为响应2023年主题——为地球献出一小时,加特兰开展了绿色工作日活动(3月20日至3月26日)。上海、深圳、杭州、苏州四地办公室结合实地情况,以唤醒环保意识、鼓励环保行为为目的,推出一系列从线上到线下、从办公室到户外的活动,号召“加星人”全员参与。

本次绿色工作日活动持续一周,前期以科普为主,通过充满绿色人文的电脑屏保、全员邮件中的环保小贴士、大屏幕循环播放的宣传视频,持续唤醒大家的环保DNA。

低碳节能生活打卡活动贯穿整周,以绿色工作日为契机,推行包括公共交通出行、自带购物袋或咖啡杯、点外卖自备餐具等方式减少碳足迹,为地球减负。

周五,各地陆续展开丰富多彩的绿色活动:

  • 深圳——生态长廊徒步:丢掉心里的压力,带走沿途的垃圾
  • 杭州——致敬城市守护者:守护勾勒城市留白的环保卫士

这一系列活动唤醒了“加星人”的环保意识,并且通过健康生活的理念和低碳节能的出行方式相结合,倡导大家积极参与环保活动。

Calterah Exhibits mmWave Radar Technology for Next-Gen Eldercare at CareTEX 2023

From Mar. 22 to 24, CareTEX 2023, the largest B2B trade fair in the eldercare industry in Japan, was held at Tokyo Big Sight. Calterah brought its industrial-grade mmWave radar SoCs, together with Calterah-inside end-use senior care sensor products and radar modules from its ecosystem partners, to the exhibition, where in-depth exchanges between Calterah and the eldercare industry players and professionals from Asia and the rest of the world were conducted.

CareTEX 2023 offered a platform for exchange and cooperation between exhibitors and their potential customers, and its exhibits included eldercare supplies, equipment, solutions, and technologies. Calterah presented the mass-produced 2nd-gen mmWave SoCs, the new SoC products launched in late 2022, and their development boards in addition to the mentioned end-use sensor products and modules developed by its ecosystem partners, which attracted lots of international visitors with business opportunities in the industry.

As an embodiment of the next-gen technology for smart elderly care, mmWave radar devices based on Calterah 60 GHz industrial-grade Rhine/Rhine-Mini SoCs have advantages in performance, costs, power consumption, privacy protection, and other aspects, and can well fulfill the functional requirements of indoor human presence detection, human movement tracking, and vital sign monitoring, etc.

During the exhibition, Calterah’s real-time interactive demo using a 60 GHz industrial-grade AiP SoC, with human presence detection and people tracking functions, engaged curious visitors who were quite impressed by the technological advancement of Calterah, and some were very interested in applying the mmWave technology to senior care. In such application scenarios, mmWave radar sensors, unlike traditional wearables or camera sensors, can achieve precise yet contactless detection without privacy concerns, making elderly care smarter, more comfortable, and safer.

Through a dedicated exhibition at CareTEX 2023, Calterah has promoted its mmWave radar SoC products and solutions for eldercare applications to the Asian and even global industry, and facilitated and deepened communication with international customers. Going forward, Calterah’s mmWave radar technologies will surely, through unnoticeable and pleasant detection and monitoring, contribute to a smarter and safer society, in a mission to “Make Millimeter-Wave Serve Everyone.”

Calterah Wins Lingxuan Award 2022 for Excellent Forward-Looking ICs

On Dec. 24, China Auto Supply Chain Summit (CASCS) 2022 and the 7th China Auto Parts Industry Awards (CAPIA, also known as the Lingxuan Awards) Ceremony were held in Wuhan, China. Calterah was honored with the Lingxuan Award for Excellent Forward-Looking ICs by virtue of its Andes family of mmWave radar SoC chips.

This honor came after last year’s recognition of the Lingxuan Award for Excellent Mass-Produced ICs for the Alps family of mmWave radar SoC chips. 

The products and technologies filed for this year’s Awards exceeded 200 cases and can be sorted into 10 categories, including intelligent driving and ICs. The jury for the Awards came from the purchasing and R&D departments of Chinese car makers and senior experts in the industry. After 4 rounds of deliberation and reviews, Calterah stood out for the advancement, applicability, and influence of its Andes mmWave radar SoC products, and won the Lingxuan Award for Excellent Forward-Looking ICs.  

Calterah’s Andes mmWave radar sensor SoC product family was officially launched at the Calterah Day 2022 event on Dec. 20. The next-generation SoC platform adopts the 22 nm process and integrates a multi-core CPU, a DSP, and an RSP. With extraordinary computation power, flexible cascading functionality, convenient debugging functions, and advanced security capability, Andes literally brings the most leading-edge mmWave technologies to the market.

One Andes SoC chip alone can be used for high-performance ADAS radar design and can replace the existing radar products on the market with a greater detection range, a larger FOV, and more accuracy. Two Andes chips cascaded together can be used for powerful L3+ auto driving radar, which can output rich point-cloud data while measuring the objects and modelling the environment. A cascaded system of three or four Andes chips can realize high-performance imaging radar functions, which will act as a main sensor of the auto driving system, achieving accurate measurement of objects, still and moving alike, within a rather wide area. As needed, cascaded systems of different numbers of SoCs can be realized for optimal flexibility and cost-efficiency.

For industry players down the supply chain, their engineers can reuse the toolchains and code and draw on the previous system design experience when using Andes for radar systems of different levels. In this case, the design cycle is cut short and companies are more capable of fulfilling various system-level requirements. When it comes to the mass production, stock management for different level of radar modules is made easier and costs for purchasing and storage are reduced because of the common use of Andes sensor chips. This is especially significant in light of the overall situation of unstable supply in the semiconductor market.

And this is also in line with the theme “Reaction” of this CASCS. Amid uncertainties, Calterah’s Andes family of mmWave radar sensor SoCs is poised to address the pressing demands for the supply chain development of the transforming automotive industry. In the meantime, the launch of Andes SoCs is expected to change the landscape of high-end radar chips where imported products dominate the market and thus facilitate the localization of premium auto radar modules.

CASCS 2022 and the 7th China Auto Parts Industry Awards focus on “Reaction”, expressing the pressing demands for the supply chain development of the transforming automotive industry. The Lingxuan Awards, also known as China Auto Parts Industry Awards, aim to discover and encourage excellent and emerging forces in the auto parts industry, and offer a competitiveness map for China’s auto parts supply chain. As an annual selection with the most authority in China, the Lingxuan Awards have become important references for mainstream car OEMs to choose their suppliers.

Calterah Day 2022 | Calterah Launches New mmWave Radar SoC Families—Alps-Pro and Andes

 

At 10 am Beijing time on Dec. 20, the Calterah Day 2022 themed with Next Wave, first of its kind, was initiated where two new mmWave radar SoC families, Alps-Pro and Andes, were launched.

 

Alps-Pro

Alps-Pro is developed based on the mmWave radar SoC platform of Alps, featuring more powerful, more robust and more optimal. The new Alps-Pro device integrates a 4T4R transceiver capable of operation in 76–81 GHz band, high-speed ADCs, BBA (Baseband Accelerator) supporting the complete radar signal processing flow, a dual-core CPU, and cybersecurity engines. Also, the device supports CAN, CAN-FD, and 100 Mbps Ethernet interfaces and its typical power consumption is as low as 1.8 W at 50% duty cycle when 4 TXs and 4 RX are all on. 

Compared to Alps products, the newly-launched Alps-Pro product has several advantages:

  • FMCW transceiver system
    • More accurate phase shifter; higher channel-to-channel isolation; greater RF link budget.
    • Reduced spur attenuation; CISPR 25 Class 5 for EMC; 100% faster functional safety mechanism detection.
  • BBA
    • More efficient DDM flow; coherent CFAR; SVA supported.
    • Greater performance in interference detection and mitigation; bit-true simulator for each BBA engine.
  • Digital circuitry
    • Memory size increased by 100%; single-core CPU upgraded to dual-core; interface throughput improved by 19 times

The Alps-Pro device, resembling the cost-efficient advantage of Alps, is the smallest among its likes on the market. Apart from it, the various debugging features, simpler CPU resource management, and ASPICE compliance of Alps-Pro offer greater ease of use and shorten time to market.  

Forward-looking radar based on Alp-Pro can have a maximum detection range of 240 m, with ±0.1° angular accuracy and 3° resolution. Unquestionably, the more powerful Alps-Pro can better meet the requirements of radar systems for L2+ intelligent.

 

Andes

The next-generation mmWave radar SoC product family of Andes that brings the frontier technology to the market, was also unveiled. Andes, unrivalled in every aspect, can realize 4D premium and imaging radar functions.

At the product launch, Dr Chen Jiashu, CEO of Calterah, pointed out three directions towards which the automotive mmWave radar evolves: compact and low-power, economical, and 4D imaging. Calterah’s AiP products from the Alps family are preferred choices for small and low-power radar modules and perfect for emerging automotive in-cabin applications. For Alps-Pro, it targets L2+ intelligent radar with the cost-efficient advantage. Andes, however, is designed for 4D premium and imaging radar, contributing to L3+ auto driving.

Calterah Day 2022, the first of its kind, comprised a new product launch in the morning conducted via on-site presentation and livestreaming, attracting an audience of over 3000, and mmWave tech seminars in the afternoon where Calterah engineers elaborated on Alps-Pro regarding its whole-new algorithms, system design, SDK architecture, compilation and debugging, data collection, and HIL, in an effort to help customers gain a deeper understanding of Alps-Pro.

As of today, Calterah has served more than 400 customers, built a partnership with over 20 car OEMs, and enabled 70+ car models, with an accumulative shipment of over 3 million auto-grade chips. Calterah’s DDM-MIMO Facilitates Mass Production of High-Performance Corner Radar

As a number of car models equipped with Calterah’s automotive-grade SoCs have entered into mass production recently, the high-performance corner radar solution with the DDM-MIMO function developed by Calterah based on an Alps mmWave radar SoC chip facilitates a safer and smarter driving experience.

Recent years have seen the overwhelming installation rate of mmWave radar in smart cars as intelligent driving advances to higher levels. The radar solution employed by new cars is also evolving to a 5R (5 mmWave radar sensors) configuration, where in most cases 1 forward-looking radar sensor and 4 corner radar sensors are included, or even configurations with more radar devices.

As a leading fabless provider of mmWave radar chips and solutions, Calterah has enabled the corner radar applications to 50+ car models, in the market and to be mass-produced. At present, many top Chinese and foreign passenger car brands have adopted Calterah’s corner radar solutions developed based on its automotive-grade mmWave radar SoCs.

Calterah provides a multi-mode radar solution for corner radar applications, including high-performance DDM-MIMO for medium-range mode and TDM-MIMO for short-range mode, which enables real-time detection of objects beside, in front of and behind the vehicle, providing the information regarding range, relative velocity, azimuth, and elevation of targets.

The high-performance DDM-MIMO function can be applied to the medium-range mode and has several performance advantages:

  • Long detection range (0.4 m110 m) and wide velocity measurement range (-85 m/s85 m/s);

  • 16 channels for 2D angle measurement in azimuth and elevation, with high angle measurement accuracy (±0.3° for azimuth) and high angle measurement resolution (4° for azimuth);

  • Long-distance detection of objects in the same lane of the vehicle enabled by an antenna design supporting 45° beam-deflection, while ensuring large FOV (azimuth: -75°75°, elevation: -12°12°).

The DDM-MIMO function can be applied for scenarios requiring high-performance corner radar, including Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Open Warning (DOW).

In addition, the multi-mode radar system can also support the TDM-MIMO function which can be applied to the short-range mode. This mode is featured by wide detection range (0.1 m–22.5 m), high range resolution (0.1 m), high-velocity resolution (0.13 m/s), large FOV (-75°75°), 2D angle measurement in azimuth and elevation, high angle measurement resolution (4° for azimuth), and high angle measurement accuracy (±0.3° for azimuth). The TDM-MIMO function can cover the requirements of parking scenarios, such as APA (Automatic Parking Assist), and AVP (Automated Valet Parking).

Calterah’s multi-mode corner radar solution is based on its 77 GHz automotive-grade SoC chip of the Alps family—CAL77S244-AE, which integrates a highly configurable FMCW waveform generator, high-speed ADCs, radar signal processing baseband, a CPU, and multiple peripheral interfaces.

The highly integrated SoCs of Calterah, just like CAL77S244-AE, can greatly lower the radar system design threshold and shortens the development cycle. 近期,多款搭载加特兰车规级SoC芯片的车型陆续实现量产,加特兰基于Alps系列SoC芯片开发的带DDM-MIMO功能的高性能角雷达方案,正在帮助更多汽车实现更安全、更智能的出行。

近年来,随着智能驾驶不断往更高级别演进,毫米波雷达传感器成为了智能汽车的标配。新车搭载的雷达数量也正在向5R(5颗毫米波雷达)配置、甚至更多雷达的配置演进。一般而言,5R雷达配置包括1颗前向雷达和4颗角雷达。

加特兰作为毫米波雷达芯片和方案的领先供应商,已经取得五十余款车型的角雷达应用定点,并在持续量产过程中。目前,众多一线的国内外乘用车品牌已搭载了基于加特兰车规级毫米波雷达SoC的角雷达方案。

针对角雷达应用,加特兰提供了多模式雷达方案,包含高性能DDM-MIMO(中距模式)以及TDM-MIMO(短距模式),可实现针对车辆侧方和前后多个目标的实时检测,获取目标的距离、相对速度、方位角、俯仰角等信息。

高性能DDM-MIMO功能可应用于中距模式,具备多项性能优势:

  • 探测范围远(4 m–110 m),测速范围大(-85 m/s–85 m/s);

  • 充分利用16个通道进行方位俯仰二维测角,测角精度高(方位±0.3°),测角分辨率高(方位4°);

  • 采用45°波束偏转天线设计,在保证大FOV(方位-75°–75°,俯仰-12°–12°)的同时,可实现正后方或正前方车道的远距离探测。

DDM-MIMO功能适用于高性能角雷达场景,比如盲点检测(BSD)、变道辅助(LCA)、后方交通穿行提示(RCTA)、开门预警(DOW)等。

同时,多模式雷达方案也支持传统的TDM-MIMO功能,可应用于短距模式。该模式下,芯片探测范围为0.1 m–22.5 m,距离分辨率高(0.1 m),速度分辨率高(0.13 m/s),具备大FOV(-75°–75°)、方位俯仰二维测角,以及测角分辨率高(方位4°)和精度高(方位±0.3°)的特点。TDM-MIMO功能适用于泊车场景,满足自动泊车辅助(APA)、自主代客泊车(AVP)等应用的需求。

Calterah Holds Its First Industrial Tech Day

On September 1, Calterah hosted its first Industrial Tech Day event, where a number of industrial customers were invited to join the in-depth technical sharing regarding how to implement product development based on Calterah’s industrial-grade SoCs.

Calterah’s industrial-grade portfolio of mmWave radar SoCs includes the Rhine and Rhine-Mini product families, which are integrated with the highly configurable FMCW waveform generator, high speed ADCs, the radar signal processing baseband, CPU, and multiple peripheral interfaces. Such highly integrated industrial SoCs have significantly lowered the threshold of radar system development and shortened the time-to-market for customers.

Moreover, the AiP (Antenna-in-Package) radar sensor chips in the industrial SoC portfolio further help customers save the investment in antenna development and reiteration and  eliminate the use of high-frequency laminates, bringing the advantages of a more compact size, a reduced cost, and easier development of radar modules.

Besides, the mmWave radar ICs also feature unnoticeable and privacy-friendly detection.

Owing to all those benefits, Calterah’s industrial-grade mmWave radar SoCs have been widely applied to various industrial segments, including intelligent living applications of smart home, elderly care, etc., intelligent city applications like smart transport systems, smart barrier-gate systems, security and surveillance, security check, etc., and industrial automation applications such as obstacle avoidance by robots and UAVs, liquid level detection, etc., hence further popularizing mmWave radar in this market.

At the Industrial Tech Day event, trainers from Calterah’s R&D department centered on the Rhine-Mini family of SoCs and went into detail about compilation environment setup, SDK architecture, debugging, data collection, radar signal processing baseband, tracking algorithms, etc.

The Rhine-Mini product family is one of the two SoC families rolled out by Calterah in 2021, boasting the feature of being “Mini, but Mighty”. Compared to Calterah Alps and Rhine products, the Rhine-Mini series has a 40% smaller size, a typical working power consumption of only 0.8 W, and a dual-core CPU, with its cost reduced by 20%. What’s more, Rhine-Mini also offers flexible functions and extraordinary performances. These features have satisfied the requirements of the industrial market, especially the emerging applications, for the cost, size, and performance of radar chips.

The event also offered a hands-on session for customers to conduct operations of development environment setup and debugging. In the meantime, Calterah FAEs also provided careful guidance for customers and assisted in addressing customers’ questions and deepening their technical understanding.
