The highly-anticipated electronica 2024, one of the premier events in the global electronics industry, unfolded at the Munich Exhibition Center from 12th to 15th November. Returning to the event after two years, Calterah exhibited a most comprehensive portfolio of mmWave radar SoCs in the industry, designed for all interior and exterior automotive applications as well as indoor sensing. With cutting-edge mmWave semiconductor technologies, Calterah continued redefining the future of mobility and smart living.
Calterah’s Leading-Edge Radar SoCs for All-Scenario Smart Driving and Smart Living
In the exhibition area for automotive SoCs, Calterah presented its mmWave SoCs for ADAS radar, in-cabin radar, and imaging radar applications. A vehicle model on display fully equipped with various radar modules, provided visitors with an immersive demonstration of the intelligent driving experience enabled by Calterah’s radar solutions.
ADAS Radar SoCs: The Alps and Alps-Pro series of automotive-grade SoCs are Calterah’s main chip products shipped for traditional ADAS radar. These solutions offer reliable and accurate multi-dimensional perception while reducing radar BOM costs by up to 80%, helping to make intelligent driving more cost-effective and accessible to everyone.
In-Cabin Radar SoCs: In-cabin radar has been receiving more focus in the automotive industry, especially in Europe, where Euro NCAP has introduced stricter requirements for Child Presence Detection (CPD) systems. Calterah has rolled out the 4T4R Rhine AiP SoC, 4T4R Rhine-Pro SoC, and 6T6R Lancang-USRR AiP SoCs to address these evolving needs. Leveraging Calterah’s innovative Antenna-in-Package (AiP) technology, the ultra-compact radar modules can meet stringent in-cabin installation requirements while delivering enhanced performance tailored for in-cabin scenarios, such as continuously improved angular detection. Visitors at the booth interacted with a live demonstration of Calterah’s in-cabin radar solution, experiencing its precise detection capabilities and privacy-friendly features firsthand.
Imaging Radar SoCs: As advanced driving features gain traction, demand for imaging radar is surging. Calterah’s innovative Flex-Cascading® technology supports cascading multiple Andes SoCs to realize imaging radar systems that offer precise object detection of cars, three- or two-wheelers, passengers, etc. on busy urban roads. Such powerful detection can facilitate car OEMs to achieve advanced driving functions such as urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA). Calterah offers both standard and premium imaging radar solutions enabled by the Andes ROP® (Radiator-on-Package) SoC, which is complemented by waveguide antennas for enhanced range detection and angular resolution.
Calterah radar SoCs have already powered intelligent driving and in-cabin sensing features of over 200 vehicle models from nearly 30 OEMs. Calterah’s success in having stably mass-produced high-quality and high-reliability automotive chips, is underpinned by the robust adherence to a comprehensive system of automotive-grade standards, including functional safety, cybersecurity, ASPICE, etc. At electronica 2024, Calterah’s cybersecurity architect, Zhang Yunjie, also spoke at the Automotive Forum, sharing the company’s innovative practices in automotive radar cybersecurity.
In non-automotive fields, Calterah radar chips are also unlocking the potential of smart life. At the industrial-SoC zone, Calterah showcased its full lineup of industrial-grade radar SoCs. A real-time radar device based on its 60 GHz Rhine SoC for indoor human detection at the booth demonstrated the capabilities of tracking the motions, postures, and activities of human with precision. These technological advancements open up exciting possibilities for applications in smart homes, elderly care, and beyond.
Establishing a Local Presence in Munich to Serve European Market
As a global leader in mmWave radar chips, Calterah reached a significant milestone in the third quarter of 2024, surpassing 10 million units of accumulated chip shipments, while riding a wave of continuous rapid growth. With growing investments in overseas markets, Calterah has made significant strides in Europe and established a local team in Munich.
"Germany is home to many experts in the automotive electronics industry and key customers. We chose Munich for our first overseas office to better meet the needs of our Tier-1 and OEM customers in Europe,” said Dr. Jiashu Chen, Calterah’s founder and CEO, during an interview with Electronics Weekly on the opening day of the exhibition. “We’ve assembled a professional team of sales and FAE and will soon establish a software team to provide localized, customized support for the European and North American markets.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Calterah, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the electronica. Calterah hopes to leverage these valuable opportunities for friendly exchanges and interactions with global customers to pave the way for our global market strategy. Going forward, Calterah will continue innovating advanced and highly integrated wireless chip technologies, meeting the demand for the electrification, intelligent driving, and digitalization of the global automotive industry.
