Calterah Exhibits at IZB 2024, Strengthening Footprints in European Automotive Market

2024-10-25

The 27th International Suppliers Fair (IZB) spanning from 22 to 24 in October was hosted in Wolfsburg, the city home to Volkswagen's headquarters. Initially launched as an internal event by Volkswagen, the IZB has evolved into a premier trade show for automotive suppliers worldwide. As a leader in CMOS mmWave radar chips, Calterah made its debut at the IZB, showcasing a most cutting-edge and comprehensive portfolio of automotive mmWave radar SoCs alongside all-around innovative solutions tailored for intelligent vehicle radar applications.

With a Focus on Europe, Calterah Keeps Pursuing Its Global Strategy

As the world’s second-largest electric vehicle market, Europe is a crucial part of Calterah’s global strategy. Calterah has already made progress in this market by continuously advancing its mmWave semiconductor technology, enhancing its localized supports, and establishing close collaborations with prominent automotive Tier 1 enterprises across Europe.

"Some car models from several automotive brands with Calterah’s mmWave radar chips inside have been sold in Europe, providing local users with safer intelligent in-cabin and driving functions," said Dirk Jürgens, Calterah’s EMEA General Manager, during an interview with German media. "Europe holds significant growth potential, and we plan to expand further here by developing a specialized sales and technical support team to address the needs of European customers and provide local support for car OEMs and Tier 1 clients."

Calterah Radar SoCs Cater to All Needs of Smart Car Cabins and Driving

A highlight of Calterah’s IZB exhibit was its vehicle model mounted with various radar modules, including imaging radar, rear radar, and corner radar on the exterior, as well as in-cabin radar installed inside. This car model offered visitors a clear view of the installation and applications of radar modules enabled by Calterah chips. It drew much attention from visitors to Calterah’s booth, who gained a direct understanding of how Calterah’s mmWave radar chips enhance intelligent applications for car cabins and driving in the future.

What enables the intuitive radar layout on the car model is Calterah’s comprehensive portfolio of automotive-grade radar chips covering all three major segments of automotive mmWave radar:

  • Imaging Radar: The Andes SoC, a powerful mmWave radar chip, with Calterah’s proprietary Flex-Cascading® technology, can be used to develop cascading imaging radar systems, providing vehicles with highly intelligent “eyes” that enhance active safety. At this year’s IZB, the Andes SoC was selected as one of the 25 most outstanding innovative technologies and marked as one of the “Products to Watch”.
  • ADAS Radar: The Alps-Pro series of SoCs displayed included the CAL77S344-AE chip with a standard package and CAL77S344-AR with Radiator on Package (RoP®), targeting forward-looking radar, high-performance corner radar, and other ADAS applications. The RoP® chip in combination with waveguide antennas further enhances radar sensing capabilities, providing more solid support for intelligent driving.
  • Emerging Short-Range Radar: From the cost-efficient Antenna-in-Package (AiP) SoCs from the Alps series and Rhine series, to the high-performance Rhine-Pro SoC, as well as the extremely low-power 6T6R Kunlun-USRR and Lancang-USRR families of SoCs, Calterah provides a multi-tiered range of options for emerging short-range radar applications, covering both the interior and exterior of vehicles, including door radar, side radar, tailgate radar, in-cabin radar, etc.

As of the end of September 2024, Calterah had achieved an impressive milestone of over 10 million units of accumulative radar chip shipments, underscoring its leading position in China’s mmWave radar chip market. Building on its success in China, the most dynamic market of electric and intelligent vehicles, Calterah is poised to empower automotive OEMs in Europe and beyond with its all-encompassing mmWave radar SoC solutions, advancing driving and in-cabin experiences that are more intelligent and safer for everyone.
