Calterah Exhibits at World New Auto Technology CES and Its mmWave Radar SoC Alps-Pro Wins Lingxuan Award

2023-11-13

With the continuous development of the CASE (Connectivity, Autonomy, Shared mobility, Electrification) technologies in the new auto era, the auto industry is undergoing rapid transformation. To construct a robust ecosystem for collaboration in new auto technologies, and to serve as a vital bridge between OEMs and auto parts suppliers and a ladder for evolution, the World New Auto Technology Collaboration Ecosystem Show (WNATCES 2023), the China Auto Supply Chain Summit (CASCS) and the 8th China Auto Parts Industry Awards (CAPIA, also known as the Lingxuan Awards) Ceremony were grandly held in Kunshan from November 10 to 12. Calterah Alps-Pro mmWave radar SoC was honored with the Lingxuan Award for Excellent Forward-Looking ICs. Calterah also delivered a keynote speech and participated in a panel discussion forum, sharing insights into the future of China auto-grade chips.

Calterah Exhibits Full Portfolio of Auto-Grade CMOS mmWave Radar SoCs at WNATCES 2023

The mmWave radar is an essential sensor in automobile active safety systems. Leveraging the world leading technology of CMOS mmWave radar SoC, Calterah's SoC chips boast advantages including high integration, cost-efficiency, and excellent performance, facilitating the wide adoption of automotive mmWave radar. At WNATCES 2023, Calterah, a leading mmWave radar chip enterprise, presented a most comprehensive portfolio of CMOS mmWave radar SoC chips, including Alps, Rhine, Alps-Mini, Alps-Pro mmWave SoC chips based on the Alps platform, and Andes mmWave SoC chips based on the Andes platform. Chips based on the Alps platform enable both traditional and emerging applications including forward-looking radar, corner radar, in-cabin radar, and door radar; while the Andes family of chips cater to high-performance radar, supporting multi-chip cascading for 4D imaging radar. Calterah also illustrated the installation of different mmWave radar at different positions in a car, so the audience could intuitively understand the diverse automotive radar application scenarios enabled by mmWave radar SoCs.

Calterah Facilitates China Auto Chips to Overcome Challenges with Innovation and Product Differentiation

As a crucial platform for communication between Chinese automotive suppliers and leading players in procurement and R&D departments of car makers, the China Auto Supply Chain Summit (CASCS) has built a bridge between them. During the summit, Wang Zheng, General Manager of Calterah's automotive product line, participated in a roundtable discussion, sharing insights on the current challenges and opportunities in the survival of domestically produced auto-grade chips.

  •  “Against the backdrop of building a self-reliant auto supply chain, car OEMs are more willing to choose chip products from Chinese enterprises. However, the requirements for these chips remain strict, especially concerning product costs and the need for rapid iteration,” stated Wang Zheng. “For one thing, Calterah's mmWave radar chips demonstrate robust capabilities by achieving an accumulative IC shipment of over 6 million units, with the continuous optimization of production costs. For another, to meet the demands of rapid iteration and the stringent requirements for auto-grade chips, Calterah is consistently enhancing its auto-grade system and has obtained certifications for multiple auto-grade standards, including the reliability standard AEC-Q100, the functional safety standard ISO 26262, the automotive cybersecurity standard ISO/SAE 21434, and automotive software development standard ASPICE.
  • Regarding the opportunities faced by domestic auto-grade chips enterprises, Wang Zheng pointed out that "Chinese auto-grade chips companies need to establish different product advantages through technological innovation to meet the emerging application demands of domestic OEMs, which are distinct from those of overseas car makers. Meanwhile, there are also greater opportunities in the overseas market." Calterah has been investing in the CMOS mmWave radar chip technology for nearly a decade, forming strong core competitiveness in CMOS mmWave SoC technology, radar algorithms, the Antenna-in-Package (AiP) technology, etc. Through these technologies, Calterah not only empowers traditional automotive applications including front-looking radar and corner radar, but also caters to the emerging radar applications in Chinese cars, such as automatic door collision avoidance radar and in-cabin radar, further facilitating the development of new automotive. Additionally, Calterah is also actively exploring opportunities in overseas markets, deepening its cooperation with internationally-renowned auto Tier-1 and OEMs.
  • Wang Zheng also mentioned that as a crucial part of the automotive industry chain in China, chip companies need to pursue “collaboration for winning”. It involves open communication and strengthened cooperation in areas like improving automotive standard systems.
