On April 26th, we celebrate the 24th World Intellectual Property Day with the theme "IP and SDGs: Embracing Innovation, Building a Common Future" highlighted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). WIPO encourages discussions on the crucial values of intellectual property (IP), innovation, and creation in the pursuit of sustainable development goals and a community of shared future for mankind. In the field of mmWave radar chips, Calterah's groundbreaking technologies have been actively contributing to creating a more sustainable world. 

Calterah Enables Wide Application of mmWave Radar, Contributing to Realizing SDGs

IP serves as a “potent catalyst” for economic growth and societal development, playing a crucial role in improving livelihoods, protecting the planet, and more. According to WIPO reports, one-third of patented inventions are related to sustainable development goals. Calterah's proprietary inventions in the field of mmWave radar chips also advance the realization of SDGs.

• The reduction of traffic accidents is a global challenge and is listed in SDG 3 "Good Health and Well-being" (3.6: Halving the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents). To enhance driving safety and facilitate the widespread adoption of active safety and advanced driver assistance technologies, cost-efficient mmWave radar technology is indispensable. The high cost of traditional mmWave radar chips manufactured using gallium arsenide and germanium silicon processes leads to low adoption rates in automotive mmWave radar. Calterah pioneered the CMOS mmWave radar SoC technology and launched the Alps SoC platform, reducing the cost of mmWave radar by over 80%. Meanwhile, Calterah provides comprehensive radar solutions for all automotive scenarios, reducing the radar development investment by customers, further promoting the wide application of mmWave radar, and enabling more vehicles to attain safer and smarter driving capabilities.
   

   

   

• Calterah also extends the positive impact of its mmWave radar technologies to areas such as smart homes and smart offices, where it contributes to energy conservation and carbon reduction, helping to mitigate the influence of climate change and achieve SDG 13 "Climate Action." By empowering indoor radar devices to precisely detect the presence and positions of people indoors, Calterah's mmWave technology enables appliances to automatically adjust ventilation and lighting, thereby optimizing energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions.

Calterah Builds Comprehensive IP Protection Based on CMOS mmWave Chip Innovations

As a global leader in mmWave radar chip technology, Calterah continues pursuing CMOS mmWave semiconductor technology innovation and has built up comprehensive IP protection. Calterah has been consolidating its core technological competitiveness. Since its first patent application in 2016, Calterah has rapidly been expanding its IP portfolio, with the numer of patent applications surpassing 100 by 2020. It also ventured into international markets with its first overseas application in 2019 and the first overseas patent was granted in 2023. Currently, Calterah has filed more than 450 patent applications globally, covering its proprietary technologies such as Antenna in Package (AiP) and Flex-Cascading^®.

In recent years, Calterah has obtained the Intellectual Property Management System Certification, the title of National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise, and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Innovation Award. Calterah has been recognized as a pilot enterprise in patent work by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and holds membership in the China Patent Protection Association.
