What are the advantages of 60 GHz mmWave radar over 24 GHz microwave radar in applications?

60 GHz mmWave radar in application scenarios has two advantages:

First, in positioning accuracy, 60 GHz mmWave radar performs better. With a positioning accuracy of about 0.3~0.4 meters, it can accurately distinguish two people in the neighboring seats. In contrast, 24 GHz radar cannot achieve such precise separation of positions. To achieve separation, it requires the distance of two positions to be at least two to three meters.

Second, height accuracy. For example, in the scenario of fall detection, 60 GHz mmWave radar can accurately capture changes of point clouds on elevation, which is beyond the capability of 24 GHz microwave radar.

How does Calterah mmWave radar technology eliminate risks related to user privacy and data security?

First, compared with cameras, mmWave radar does not collect face information or human torso details. Therefore, it is born with the advantage of privacy protection.

Second, both Calterah management system and chip design have been certified by the Information Security standard ISO 27001, and all processes and chip design strictly follow the requirements of information security.

Third, Calterah's Rhine SoCs support the AES symmetric encryption algorithm. In the future, Calterah will add Hardware Security Module to support more encryption methods, such as symmetric, asymmetric, hash or true random number generation to protect the information security of chips.

In addition to indoor human sensing applications, what other scenarios can mmWave radar be applied to?

Apart from indoor applications, mmWave radar also demonstrates great outdoor advantages. Given its all-weather running ability, the performance of mmWave radar is not affected by light conditions, during daytime or at nights. On rainy days, small amounts of rain or fog have a large impact on visual solutions, while the mmWave radar can penetrate these interferences with its performance slightly attenuated, but main functions unaffected. That is why mmWave radar is one of the must-have sensors in ADAS radar in the automotive field.

Furthermore, mmWave radar supports the realization of traffic radar in intelligent transportation. For example, at each intersection or under a signal, the traffic radar can be used to count the number of pedestrians and vehicles passing through, or to capture whether a vehicle has any illegal behaviors. mmWave radar can also be equipped in drones to realize obstacle avoidance.
