Calterah Strengthens European Presence with New Munich Office

2025-07-03

Calterah, a global leader in designing and developing CMOS millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar chips, has set up a new office in Munich to enhance on-site engineering support and address the needs of European OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in the automotive sector. With a comprehensive product portfolio extending from mmWave radar SoCs to ultra-wideband (UWB) SoCs, Calterah is poised to bring greater value to the automotive market in Europe and beyond.

The new Munich office is headed by Peter Wiese, who took on the role of EMEA Managing Director in March 2025. With his extensive experience in the automotive industry, Peter Wiese is responsible for further expanding local business. “Our solutions are not off-the-shelf parts, but developed in-house, from architecture to application,” explains Wiese. “Calterah offers technology tailored to the requirements of European OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. We think locally, act as partners, and have a deep understanding of the unique characteristics of the European market.”

New mmWave Radar Chip Solutions for ADAS and In-Cabin Sensing

In June, Calterah revealed groundbreaking advancements in mmWave radar technology at Calterah Day 2025 in Shanghai. The premium 8-transmitter 8-receiver (8T8R) imaging radar solution powered by two cascaded Andes Radiator-on-Package (RoP®) chips enables highly precise height detection of different objects at distances up to 350 metersa milestone for environmental monitoring for intelligent driving assistance systems.

The new Alps-Pro RoP® solution also sets new standards for ADAS systems: the solution improves pedestrian detection range and outputs significantly denser point clouds.

For more compact applications such as child presence detection (CPD) or in-cabin protection, Calterah has offered a 6T6R radar SoC solutionLancang-USRR AiP (Antenna-in-Package). This approach is characterized by precise detection without false alarms and particularly low power consumption, allowing always-on sensing with optimal user experience.

UWB Technology as a New Platform for Secure Ranging, Positioning, and Connectivity

With the new Dubhe SoC series, Calterah is bringing the world’s first UWB platform compliant with the new IEEE 802.15.4ab standard to the European market.  The series features an automotive-grade 2T4R UWB SoC that has an architecture equipped with two transmit and four receive channels and combines positioning and radar capabilities in a single chip. This enables automotive applications such as digital car keys, kick sensing, CPD, or intrusion detection.

A particular technical breakthrough is the support of a new modeMulti-Millisecond (MMS)  assisted by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). It allows vehicles and targets to be reliably located even from a great distance and without direct line of sight. In tests, Dubhe achieved a range of over 400 meters and stable signal transmission through multiple obstacles, such as parked vehicles.

Growth with Local Roots

Calterah has already cooperated with several European Tier-1 players, with radar chips supplied for different vehicle models. The Munich subsidiary aims to further intensify development partnerships in Europe with direct technical support and local expertise.

“We see ourselves as drivers of innovation and reliable partners,” says Wiese. “Our solutions not only help protect lives and better connect vehicles – they also provide a platform for new business models and faster time-to-market. The combination of Chinese innovation culture and proximity to European customers is our recipe for success.”
